It's been a while (ADHD and other updates)
I've been diagnosed with ADHD and it's been a game-changer.
It's been a long time since I wrote one of these newsletters, but it's a valuable way for me to stay in touch with you while also talking about things that are outside of my usual automotive/tech remit. Here’s a pretty big life update.
In January 2021 I was diagnosed with ADHD and started on meds. This isn’t a unique story. In fact, more and more adult women are getting this diagnosis because they were overlooked as kids.
Young boys and girls exhibit ADHD symptoms very differently. Typically, boys show more hyperactive traits, while girls are more inattentive.
I was your typical daydreaming kid. I rarely paid attention in class, was always making up some kind of story in my head, and moved quickly from one obsession to another. This was never a problem as a child, but as an adult, it could often be debilitating.
All the anxiety and impostor syndrome I’ve written about previously… ADHD.
My inability to ski without panicking… ADHD.
Difficulties getting tasks done except just before a deadline… ADHD.
It’s frustrating to think how things would’ve been had I been diagnosed as a child, but I see now that ADHD is my superpower. I’m embracing it and while things are still hard, everything seems clearer.
Beyond this, much is the same. I weathered the worst of lockdowns and came out the other end with two employees and a third joining the Jet Social ranks very soon. I created a flagship course for Racing Mentor, and am running the second edition of it in the coming months. On top of that, I also started writing another motorsport book!
Things get better, friends.
I’d love to hear from you. How are you doing?
Social Experiment
I’ve written before about the power of Twitter threads but I want to show an example and offer up a tool to make this easier than ever. Over on @jetlbomb, I talk about car stuff and have made it my mission in life to debunk all the bullshit articles about EVs. Here’s a recent thread on the cost of EV parts.
Considering I only have around 6000 followers, this tweet reached far and wide.
Seeing its success, I’ve been posting more threads around EV ownership, usually tied to some kind of article or trending topic. It’s a good way to show my expertise, help out my audience, and create a discussion — all of which translates to meaningful conversations and new followers.
Twitter’s built-in thread tool is good but I might prefer Typefully, which gives you a freeform way of creating Twitter threads, adding images, etc. You can also choose to ‘unroll’ the thread and publish it as an easy-to-read post.
Check out the full ‘unrolled’ version of a recent thread on car charging here.

Do the meds help? It seems that many just need to find their niche in which to thrive, and very few actually fit into the neuro-typical, 9-5, box!
